Command An Army Attack vs Defense Guide: Win Matches
Every Command An Army server splits into two teams. When you join you pick a side: attack or defend. Here is how a round plays out and how to win from either side.
How a match works
- Objectives: attackers push through Capture Point A, then Capture Point B, then the enemy base. Some maps also have a gate the attackers must break before they can get in.
- The clock: attackers are racing a timer. Defenders only have to hold out.
- Players: servers hold up to 12 players, and you can join a round that is already running.
- Reinforcements: when a regiment is wiped you can spawn it again or switch to another unit in your loadout, so one lost fight is not the end of the round.
- Maps: during the intermission you can pick the next map. Rexon found the Fortress map no fun for attackers, and MimoBlox worried that the wide-open Plains would not suit slow Spartans.
Defending
Rexon’s verdict after a week of play was that defense is easier than attack on most maps, and the best defenders make it look simple:
- Hold the point, not the field. Put your army on Hold on the capture zone. Chasing attackers across the map is how defenders lose.
- Shield wall in front, ranged behind. Shieldmen or Spartans on the point, Crossbowmen or Archers behind them. MimoBlox’s Spartan, Spearman and Shieldman defense held a full round without losing a Spartan.
- Spears for horses. Cavalry is the attackers’ best tool. Spearmen on Hold wreck Scout Riders and Lancers that charge into them.
- Ring the flag. Players layer two rings of shields round the flag; it is the Hold shape creators rate strongest.
- Clean up with shock infantry. Berserkers are weak walking into shields but excellent at clearing attackers who already made it onto your point.
Attacking
- Do not walk into the archers. Ranged defenders shred an army that walks up the middle. Come from the side.
- Rush when the enemy is busy. Charge a regiment that is already fighting your teammates. A charge into a waiting shield wall throws your army away.
- Cavalry first, heavy infantry inside. Rexon’s attack order: open with Scout Riders to get into the point, then switch to Berserkers once you are inside and fighting at close range.
- Bring shield breakers. Since Update 1, Mace, Halberder and Javelineer deal block damage. One regiment of them is the answer to a Spartan wall.
- Stay together. Press Follow before moving to the next point. A late army is a lost point.
Getting MVP
MVP goes to whoever does the most for their team, and it pays extra even on a loss. Spartan players say MVP is hard to get when your job is just holding the line, because the kills go to the cavalry and spearmen. Capturing points yourself counts.
Play with friends
There are no private servers, but you can join friends through Roblox. Players who coordinate (one holding the point, one on ranged support, one flanking with cavalry) win far more often than a server of solo armies.
