Command An Army Classes: Assassin, Sword & Shield, Hammer
You fight in the middle of your army, so your class decides whether you are the one holding the line, sneaking round a flank or breaking into a point. The army itself is built separately from units that fit your star limit.
The three classes compared
| Class | Playstyle | Strength | Weak point | Pairs well with |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Sword & Shield | Balanced melee with a block | Blocks incoming hits, so you can stay near your troops while learning the orders | Lower burst than Assassin | Defensive and ranged troops (Shieldman, Crossbowman) |
| Assassin | Fast flanker with a dodge roll (Q) | Quick movement and more damage per second than Hammer | Little protection if you get caught in the open | Cavalry such as Scout Rider |
| Hammer | Slow, heavy swings | Big hits and a bit more reach per swing | Slow attack rhythm; the lowest damage per second of the three | Melee lines with ranged support behind them |

Which class to pick
- New to the game: Sword & Shield. Block when you are low, then step out of the fight to heal.
- You like flanking with cavalry: Assassin. Roll with Q to get out of trouble and chase stragglers.
- You play defense and hold points: Sword & Shield or Hammer, standing behind your shield line.
Fighting on horseback
Every class can ride a horse in the lobby and in matches. Two tips from players: aim your camera down to hit infantry from the saddle, and when the horse runs out of stamina, dismount and dash, since your own stamina bar is separate. Horse skins are rolled with Robux and are cosmetic.
Classes FAQ
What is the best class in Command An Army?
Sword & Shield for most new players, because the block keeps you alive while you manage your army. Creators who play aggressively tend to switch to Assassin for its speed; MimoBlox left Hammer on day one because it felt too slow.
Does my class change my troops?
No. The class only changes how your own character fights. Picking Sword & Shield does not turn your army into Shieldmen, and Assassin does not force you to use cavalry.
How much does it cost to change class?
50 Gems, the same as one summon on the Standard Banner, so test your class in a match before switching again.
